William D. "Bill" Goodwin

William D. “Bill” Goodwin, age 71, New Castle resident passed away Friday January 13, 2012 at his residence following a long illness.

He was born September 28, 1940 in Fleming County, Kentucky a son of the late Otha and Agnes Latham Goodwin.

Mr. Goodwin was a New Castle resident most of his life, and served with the U.S. Army for 17 years. He was a decorated Viet Nam Veteran, who served 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam, and was a recipient of many military awards and recognitions, including the Bronze Star. He served as a Sgt.

He was very involved with his family’s activities, and enjoyed sharing time with his family and friends. He was a member of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Pythias Lodge, New Castle Elks Lodge, and the Knightstown Moose Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, and was an excellent craftsman.

Left to cherish his memory include: his companion of 25 years, Joyce Russell of New Castle, three children; Kenny Stockton of Cambridge City, IN., Kevin Webb of New Castle, IN., Kelly Goodwin of Houston, Texas, also several grandchildren, and great grandchildren, special step children; Jack and Charlene Binion of Pendleton, IN., Brian and Laura Blackburn of New Castle, IN., Scott and Sherri Blackburn of Mt. Comfort, IN., Karamina Donahue of Eldorado, Ohio, also several step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. He was one of 18 children, including a special sister Elsie Madden of New Castle, IN., also many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Joyce McCormack of New Castle, IN, and a special nephew, Tim Madden (wife: Carla) of New Castle, IN.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, special brother-in-law Charles Denver Madden and several siblings.

Military Honors, followed by a funeral service will begin at 7:00 P.M. Monday January 16, 2012 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Rev. Elwood Evans will officiate.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
